I really really hope this is a just a hoax even though Jesse is someone who is very active in Mozilla activity and most probably he is right on in this post.

But, if indeed it is true then, it is really sad that Mozilla Foundation should think that version number and not the features is more important while, competing with IE and Opera.

I personally feel that this is a really brain dead idea.

But, on the other hand there already some very interesting proposals for versioning functions like, Ackerman's functions, and some personal home baked functions. There were only three more alpine stages to go before the plains of France in the Tour. He was very strong in 2nd time trial and in the final climb he never allowed Andréas Klöden to get away from him and that too with ease. He was the main contender for this years Tour.

Tour de France, July 19th 2006
Floyd Landis cracked on the final climb of the day. When Sastre of Team CSC attacked he just could not keep up. He just faded away till his teammates came to help him. He lost nearly 10min against most of the other contenders for this years Tour. At the end of day he is in 8min 8seconds behind the leader Oscar Pereiro in 11th place. Every commentator wrote him off. Hey, me too because it is quite impossible to imagine a rider to claw back such a huge deficit so late in the Tour.

Tour de France, July 20th 2006
The old saying "When the going gets tough the tough get going" came true. Floyd Landis started attack soon after the first climb and from then on he was untouchable. By the end of the stage he had clawed back enough time to climb back to 3rd position overall from 11th overnight. Moreover, he is just 30sec off the leader with time trial to come. Who would have thought that a guy who was on the brink of exhaustion will pull something off like this?

Tour de France seems to immortalize men who go beyond their physical and physiological limits to find energy to pull off that impossible. I mean over the last seven years we saw a man suffering from cancer make winning the Tour his mission and in turn winning back his life.
Now, we have a man who has hip that can come off any day now and rides through pain barrier. Who hid his injury from his team so that he can ride this year? To quote his team doctor "I cannot believe he is riding he should not even be walking".
Maybe he feels like Eric Cantona who once said "I don't play against a particular team. I play against the idea of losing."

Landis the mouse that roared

Schumi is back!!

They said Michelin was too conservative at Indianapolis. But, the truth is Red baron is back and he obliterated the French on their home soil.

Ferrari was faster than Renault this weekend. In the race, not just Schumacher but even Felipe Massa ran away from Alonso. The only response that Renault team could muster was to switch Alonso to two pit stop strategy to gain some time advantage. There are 17 points between Alonso and Schumacher, 7 more races to go. Will Red baron add another title to his collection? Well I for one really wish he does. Either way some life has been injected into what has been a boring season till now.

I consider constructor's championship a closed case with Ferrari's win if, they are able to keep the current advantage over Renault that is :D.

Want to be Nigerian football Coach!!

It is too soon for the football fever to die after world cup. We are still having our daily doses of analysis of Zidane's behavior. Rooney is still apologizing for stamping on Carvalho's zone.

But, today I came across something that completely knocked me off balance. Do you guys remember that really friendly mail Nigerian bankers send you? They have a million bucks stuck in a bank account because a very wealthy client of theirs died. So, all they want is little transaction and processing fee which will enable them to release all that wealth to you. Yes! YOU!!. Old news but, here is the latest news.

Apparently, now there are Nigerians out there looking to hire a football coach for their national team. What do they want in return? $2000 as transaction and processing fee. So, much so that Nigerian FA had to publicly announce that it is a con. I guess some wannabe football coaches already coughed up the necessary fee to lead Nigeria to next World cup Finals.

Source: BBC News - Nigeria deny coach advert

Firefox 2.0 Beta 1 Views - Evolving

The first beta of my favorite browser is out. Firefox 2.0 had a lot of promise at the beginning of its journey.

The best feature that held a lot of promise was integration of user bookmarks and history. How many times do you find yourself digging into your bookmark library to find that damned link you know you saved for some other time? Countless right. In stark contrast Firefox has one of best ways user history is presented. Address bar history lists the most visited URL depending on what you are typing. I usually find all my regular places within couple of keystrokes. The idea was to integrate bookmarks with this really simple way of accessing past URLs. Trust me it would have been great!! But, this was scrapped because of amount of change required and quality demanded by Mozilla process.

Hey!! That does not mean Firefox 2.0 is bad. It has a numerous nifty features like, controls to close tabs on each individual tabs, search term suggestion, phishing protection, inline spell checking etc. For, more information you check out Asa's post.

Some really nifty features:

Inline spell checking - GMail spell checking it was such a great feature especially for someone like me who misses letters or words in sentence while typing. But, with Firefox 2.0 it is irrelevant because Firefox does the job of spell checking as you type.

Tab reordering - You can reorder the tabs by dragging and dropping the tabs. I really loved this feature from Tab mix Plus.

Now let's come to gripes:

Recently closed tabs - Firefox 2.0 allows users to undo recently closed tabs. Hey! that is a nifty one isn't it but, now let's find where it is. Second part is not easy. You have to go into History menu from the main menu, there you shall see a folder named "Recently closed tabs". Maybe I am stating prematurely but, I could not find how to bring this to main toolbars that I can access easily. Tab mix plus - extension already provides a similar control for Firefox 1.5 let's hope it is ported to 2.0 soon. Update - You can undo the last closed tab by right clicking on tab-bar or any tab but, it only allows user to undo the last tab. Still not good enough :@

Page loading status - Tab mix plus displays the page loading status on each individual tab separately. It is very handy when working with multiple tabs on a slow connection. Well maybe it is not a must for patient people. But, it is missing.

What is this all about

"Something about nothing " - title truly reflects what you can see here.
